The Brothers are monks, and whatever else is going in the outside world, nothing takes precedence over the maintenance of the soul. The Church of the Gesu, the large and beautiful church at the heart of the Brother's Monastery. It is cared for by a group of Brothers Ordinary, who also assist in performing services. The Brothers, while not strictly speaking true Franciscans, follow much of the Rule laid down by Saint Francis. Chief among the observances they have adopted is the regular services, the canonical hours of Matins, Lauds, Terce, Sext, Nones, Vespers, and Compline. All the Brothers Ordinary attend the services, usually led by the Lord Abbot or one of his Deputies. Brothers Militant are only required to attend if not otherwise occupied by duty. The monks understand that while the Lord must be praised, they live in a fallen world and vigilance is eternally necessary.
